Dot NAME Domain Names

Introduced in 2001, the .NAME domain name extension is the single TLD supposed to be for personal websites only. These domain names can consist of personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other designations people are famous by. Initially, just third-level registrations were allowed, so if you wanted to register john.doe.name, you were supposed to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already acquired third-level domains remained online.
